    Transiting Saturn in Leo
    for 2 1/2 YEARS

    (July 16, 2005 - Sept. 2, 2007)

    By Mary MacLean

Friends and colleagues of astrology, I am going to present you with some information that is very interesting and somewhat of a mystery to some. I would like to take this opportunity to talk about the Saturn transit into a new sign.

I have been proclaiming the ending of the Saturn in Cancer cycle for the last six months, so I am confident that you all have a good handle on the issue. Saturn changes signs every 2 1/2 years. It will be entering Leo, a fixed fire sign. Run and get your chart so you can see what I am writing about.

Look to see what cusp Leo rules in your chart. It follows Cancer and is before Virgo. This is the area where you will spend a major part of your energy. Leo, a fire sign, is vibrant, regal, passionate, and loyal. Wherever it lands in your chart is the area where you feel these qualities. (A really good idea for new students is to read each sign carefully noting their unique qualities - a must for understanding the basics in Astrology.)

Let's call this transiting Saturn or TS. This is different than the Natal Saturn. The Natal Saturn is a permanent fixture in your natal chart and is an important part of your personality map. T S is different; it is the position of Saturn at the current time. The position of Saturn and all of the planets are calculated for use by astronomers in a book called the Ephemeris. This book can give you the position of any planet in the solar system on any day in the century. If you wanted to see where the planets were on the day you were born, you would go to the Ephemeris and search for your birth day. This is a little simplistic, I agree. There are more calculations that have to be made; however, for our purposes, this is all we need.

One of the major aspects that Saturn can make at any time is to itself, but before I go off again, let me get back to my initial point. Saturn at your birth=NS and the current transiting Saturn =TS are two different positions. TS is what we are concerned with at this time.

If you have found Leo on your chart, this is the next area to be transited by Saturn. Most people fear Saturn and it does Saturn a great injustice. It can be restrictive and limiting but the most important quality it has is redefinition. Wherever it transits, it redefines. Let me give you an idea of what I mean.

Transiting Saturn in the 1st house = you enter a new 30 year cycle that defines the new you as a person. In the process it defines your appearance and personality.
2nd house= defines your resources, money, love, values etc.
3rd house= defines communication and immediate environment, community, brothers and sisters.
4th house= defines home and core issues.
    5th house =children and creativity.
6th house=defines your work or health.
7th house=defines partnerships, business and personal.
8th house =defines partnership resources, insurance or taxes.
9th house= defines philosophy and or education.
10th house =defines career, or new labels.
11th house =defines goals and friendships.
12th house= defines the subconscious, and prepares you for Saturn to transit the 1st.

To complete all houses is one Saturn cycle. It takes about 28 years. Your chart is also divided by quadrants to determine your stage of growth. Let's forget this for now or I will go off on a tangent again.

There are rules in Astrology and I have been privy to some of the best teachers who take these rules very seriously. This is the appropriate time to talk about this rule. You will be able to see it happen for yourself in this next 9 months. Now that you know what house Saturn is transiting and what it will be preparing to do for the next 2 ½ years, I want to take you a step further.

Rule: Whenever Saturn enters a new sign, Mars goes retrograde in a certain house, creating a personal path for the Saturn transit. This means that as Saturn enters a new sign (in this case LEO) the Mars transit will be transiting another house at the same time to personalize the next Saturn transit. These are two separate planetary cycles that weave a personal meaning for you.

Mars will be entering Taurus on July 29th and transiting this position until February 18th 2006. We are looking at transiting Mars (the current Mars). This is the only time that Mars changes the way it expresses itself. Transiting Mars takes on the strength and demeanor of a mini-Saturn in its transit through Taurus. Ultimately, this transit will now redefine the house where Taurus governs.

We all know that Saturn redefines every house that it is in, and in just this case, Mars will take on the attributes of Saturn during this Mars transit. The beginning of the transit starts on July 29th and continues until Oct. 2, 2005. This is when Mars goes retrograde and stays retrograde until December 10th, 2005.

During the retrograde you will be internalizing all your recent decisions up to that point. The retrograde period is a time when God plays “52 Pick-Up? with your life. This is when you slow down and decide if this is the way you want to go. There will be changes during this time that encompass any decisions made from August 8th until the retrograde.

Now I will try and say it in people language. The direction of Saturn in Leo is refined by the Mars transit. This Mars transit along with the TS will enable you to be more personally involved with Saturn's path. This year as TS enters Leo, Mars is entering Taurus. Now go back to your chart and find the house that Taurus rules. There will be some major goings on here in the next 6 months that will make your TS much more personal to you.

If you have planets in Leo or Taurus, this will be an interesting time with lots of action going on as they challenge each other. One thing to remember is that Leo and Taurus are both fixed signs that dislike change and this Mars transit will call for change.

The first part of the Mars transit will start at the end of July and go to October 2nd. Then it will go retrograde until December 10th. This retrograde period is the most important time because you are internalizing the decisions you have made so far. The retrograde will bring in challenges and delays to your previously made decisions. This is an excellent time to re-evaluate your direction or just refine what you have already done. This retrograde period is from October 2, 2005 to December 10, 2005.

In December you will have the opportunity to rethink or refine whatever path you have taken so far. Somehow this path has obstacles that you didn't, or couldn't foresee; so, it takes more time to get where you want to go. Also, personal things may come up that require you to change your path a little. This is the perfect time to ride the wave. The retrograde is time to see exactly what you are facing and what has to change.

The end of February is the end of the Mars transit. December to February Mars will be direct and will not retrograde again until the next time Saturn enters the sign of Virgo in about 2 ½ years. The fact that God plays "52 Pick-Up" with your life in October and November is an added adventure to ensure the path you are on is the best path for you.

MARS IN TAURUS TRANSITING THE HOUSES

The Mars transit will be going through Taurus. If you have Taurus on the 1st house, this is a personal transit of Mars for you. In the first house it indicates a more assertive position, almost taking a promotional stance. There may be traveling or more determination of movement and a little Mars disruption here and there. Basically, it is all about moving forward and promoting your Taurus ascendant. This can be an excellent time to move or look for a new job. Taurus on the 1st will square (challenge) TS in Leo in the 4th house of home, indicating challenges arising from the home and long held belief systems.

Taurus on the second house leads us on a path to redefine our values. What is it that you hold dear? Now is the time you will find out. Mars through the second wants you to decide on what means the most to you. There will be value judgments everywhere. These will be personal values that deal with your finances and love. Taurus on the 2nd will challenge TS positioned in your 5th house of creativity and children, testing previously held judgments and ideals in relation to your own creativity, children and love affairs.

Taurus on the third house asks us to redevelop your community and communications. You may find yourself moving or your job changing addresses. Communications or how you communicate will be up for adjustment. Short distance travel may become a steady venue for a while. As Mars transits this position it will challenge TS in the 6th house of daily work matters and/or health issues.

Taurus on the fourth house makes references to our deepest core issues. What do we really want? This can be an interesting question when we apply it to every decision we need to make. This Mars transit will test these core issues and open you to new challenges from TS in the Leo in the 7th house of partnership. There will be concerns dealing with partnership matters and direct dealings with the public.

Taurus on the Fifth house has the ability to define our creativity. To create is to experience the gift of imagination. What do we create in our lives? Love! Children! Art! Whatever your answer is, the Mars transit will position you in the direction of creative change by challenging your 8th house of partnership resources and other people's money. I say partnership resources but the eighth house is loaded with money but just not yours.

Taurus on the Sixth house will examine every day work matters and any concerns that arise about health. You may experience challenges in your work application or confront matters concerning your daily health. Pets also fall into this category. This position will challenge the ideas and philosophies that support your everyday work and health from TS in the 9th house. Look for conflict to arise in perceptions of and philosophy about your daily work.

Taurus on the Seventh house reveals challenges to partnership, personal or business, or a consummate connection to the general public. Patience and understanding are virtues I would keep handy. Try remembering how much you have changed and in what direction. This placement will challenge all 4 angles of your chart and demonstrate new needs and developing desires. Mars in this position will be strong as it is an angle and signifies challenges your 10th house of career and 4th house of home and last but not least 1st house of personality or appearance. Basically all four angles come into play.

Taurus on the Eighth house will definitely concern other people's money or partnership funds. Issues that deal with money, especially other peoples, at times tend to be a little testy. On the other hand, this can mean money in your pocket. In this case only the Shadow knows. Realistically, this will challenge your 11th house of goals, hopes and wishes. Financial needs and your desire to achieve certain goals will have to stand the tests and challenges it takes to achieve them. Abstractly, you may be considering how to create more finances.

Taurus on the Ninth house will challenge any circumstances that deal with situations at a distance, education, or legal matters. Your philosophy of life will be confronted and you may need to make changes if they are not user-friendly. This usually will challenge issues of the 12th house as that is where TS will be. Keep in mind that with TS in the 12th you are doing a deep cleansing on a spiritual level. Developments or challenges to your philosophy will be evident as Mars progresses through the 9th house. The issues may include foreign affairs or legal matters or even educational plans. This is a time to work through your thoughts.

Taurus on the Tenth house challenges your new persona. Actually, it challenges the status quo in career or your ability to grow and develop in the world. Taurus on the 10th house usually puts Leo on the 1st with TS challenging the 10th house. Career issues will be seen as challenging due to the perception you acquire of the new you. TS on the Ascendant or 1st house describes the new you and possibly new career goals.

Taurus on the Eleventh house gives rise to challenging your goals. Are you going in the right direction? Sometimes, even when you have a plan, it doesn’t feel personal or something may be missing. This will have some strong influences on the TS in Leo your 2nd house of personal finances and values. This transit of Mars will bring your goals into focus and help you redefine your goals to accomplish what you want.

Taurus on the Twelfth house may have you staring at the past smack dab in the eye. Dealing with subconscious drives and/or spiritual uniqueness can be beneficial at this time. This is an excellent time for therapy. This mars transit of the 12th house has many opportunities, one being preparing for the minute mars goes over the Ascendant and transits the 1st house. TS will be in Leo on the 3rd house and redefine your immediate environment as well as communications with your community. This will be a time of preparation and decision but most will happen behind the scenes when everything will be in the planning stages.

The above is just a simple guide to help you through this interesting time. It is based on charts that have no interceptions. If you are a bit crafty you will be able to describe you personal challenges to this TS by just finding Leo, and Taurus in your natal chart. I must add there that if you have planets in Scorpio and Aquarius the more driven you will be and the more difficult for you to make the changes that are asked of you, because of your strong mind set.

I have been studying astrology for so long that I forgot when I started. It has brought me hours and hours of creative thought and I have met many wonderful people on an intimate level. This is something I never expected, but welcomed with open arms.

One thing I have learned is that when you are doing a person's chart you are dealing with his/her innermost thoughts and feelings. Not a job for the belligerent or tactless. There is a connection that takes place allowing me to enter into your private world and offer information. Many times the information is just confirmation of a person's thoughts, other times they don't believe what I have said and decide to discount my information, which I totally agree with, because it can only be real if it feels real to you. I often get calls later saying that my timing was correct, or right on, or the events went like I forecasted.

People are so very thoughtful. What I think is really remarkable is the liaison of the two consciousnesses or the ability to connect with someone on such an intimate level. It sounds like the Vulcan mind meld that Mr. Spock was so good at, and, honestly, sometimes it feels like that to me. All I can offer you is information about yourself as it is written in the stars but how I get it to you astounds me every time. I honestly believe that is the gift I receive in doing this work.
